Mount Nebo State School is a co-educational State Primary school catering for students in the greater Mount Nebo community. It is situated 464m above sea level and services the areas of Mount Nebo, Mount Glorious, Jolly's Lookout and suburbs surrounding The Gap and Samford. The school was established in 1931 as a one teacher school and currently has two classrooms, a tennis court, an OSHC, a library, a multi-media room and several outdoor learning spaces.
The school’s enrolment is currently 37 students and students are grouped into two multi-age classes. The Prep-2 children enjoy a class of only 16 students with a full time Teacher-Aide. The 3-6 class has an enrolment of 21 students and also has Teacher-Aide assistance for a significant amount of time each day. Our children are lucky to have a high child to adult ratio that enables us to successfully cater to their needs.
Our school community values the learning opporutnities which exist in the great outdoors and which nature can provide. Our Forest School experiences have specific ties to the Australian Curriculum and we also utilise resources from Nature Play Qld.
At Forest School, children have opportunities to explore, inquire and discover in our natural environment. On Thursdays students have a class lesson based on a curriculum area and on Fridays afternoons from 1.15-2.15 the whole school heads together to Forest School. Teachers utilise this special space at other times to enhance learning outcomes.
This year we have partnered with Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre and are implementing components from their 'place responsive pedagogy toolkit' to enhance Forest School learning even futher.
